e-İmza — meaning and English translation
e-İmza is the qualified electronic signature under Turkish law, legally equal to a handwritten signature and used on court, notarial, tax and company documents.
Under the Electronic Signature Law (No. 5070) a güvenli elektronik imza, a qualified signature created with a certificate from a licensed provider, has the same legal effect as a wet signature. Judges, notaries, tax officers, company directors and doctors sign with it, and the document then carries a signature block with the signer's name, the certificate details and a time stamp, but no visible handwritten mark. Many Turkish PDFs a UK reader sees are “signed” in this way, and the signature can be verified only in the file, not on a printout.
We render e-İmza as “electronic signature (e-İmza)” and reproduce the signature block as text, adding “[electronically signed]” at the point where a signature would otherwise appear. Nothing is invented: if the printout shows no mark, the translation says so.
