What the receiving body requires

“Belgelerin bir dilden diğer dile veya bir yazıdan başka bir yazıya çevrilmesine ve noterlikçe onaylanmasına çevirme işlemi denir.” (Translating a document from one language to another and having it certified by a notary is a translation act.) Why Turkish authorities ask for this

Under the Turkish Notaries’ Regulation, translating a document and having the translation certified by a notary is itself a notarial act. The translator has taken an oath before that notary; the notary records the translation, binds it to the original and applies the notarial seal. Turkish civil registries, YÖK, SGK, tapu offices, trade registries, courts and the military service offices are all used to this format and process it without question. A UK certified translation, which relies on the translator’s own statement, has no equivalent standing in Türkiye and is normally sent back.

We do this in Ankara, where the company has been registered since 2008 and where our translators are sworn before local notaries. Nothing has to be posted from the UK to Türkiye and back: you send scans, we handle the notary, and the finished document goes wherever it is needed.

Step by step

Apostille first. UK public documents (certificates, court orders, DBS, Companies House documents, notarised deeds) must carry an FCDO apostille before translation. The notary certifies a translation of the whole document, apostille included. If you do not yet have one, see apostille and legalisation; we can order it through a UK partner.
Send the scan. A clear scan or photo of every page, plus the apostille. Tell us which office the document is for.
Translation and revision. A notary-sworn translator translates into Turkish; a second linguist checks names, dates, figures and the rendering of UK terms (decree absolute, grant of probate, lasting power of attorney) against our style guide.
Notarisation. The translator signs at the notary’s office in Ankara. The notary seals the translation with a copy of the apostilled original.
Apostille of the notarised translation, if required. Where the receiving office asks for it, or the document is going to a third country, we apostille the notary’s certificate at the Ankara kaymakamlık.
Delivery. Scan by e-mail the same day; the wet-sealed original by courier to you in the UK or to your lawyer, relative or the receiving office in Türkiye.

What it costs

Translation into Turkish is from £6.50 per page (1,000 characters of source text). The notary fee follows the national tariff published each December and is passed through at cost: around £12–15 per page in 2026, moving with the exchange rate, plus a £5 handling fee. Apostille of the notarised translation is £15 per document with no state fee. Courier to the UK is £30 (DHL or UPS, 2–4 working days); courier within Türkiye is cheaper and quoted on request. No UK VAT is charged. You receive the notary’s receipt with the invoice.

Timing

Translation takes 1–2 working days; the notary signs the same day or the next working day; an apostille adds 1–3 working days. A typical single document is scanned to you within three working days of receiving the apostilled original, and the paper original reaches the UK about a week later. Turkish public holidays and religious holidays (bayram) close the notaries; we publish closures in advance.

Who accepts it

Accepted to date by nüfus müdürlükleri, YÖK, SGK, tapu müdürlükleri, trade registries, family and civil courts, MEB and the askerlik şubeleri. It is the domestic Turkish standard, so unlike the consulate route it is not tied to a translator list or to an appointment in London, Manchester or Edinburgh. If a Turkish office has specifically written “konsolosluk onaylı”, tell us; in our experience they accept noter onaylı too, but we will confirm with the office rather than assume.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to come to Türkiye?

No. You send scans; the translator, not the customer, signs before the notary. The notary needs the apostilled original only as a copy bound to the translation, and a good scan serves for that.

Is the notary fee fixed?

It is set by a national tariff, updated each year, charged per page and per copy. We pass it through at cost and show the notary’s receipt. The sterling figure moves with the lira exchange rate.

Does the notarised translation itself need an apostille?

Not for use inside Türkiye. Add one (£15) if the document goes to a third country or if the receiving office has asked for it.

Can you send the original directly to my lawyer in Türkiye?

Yes. Most customers have us courier within Türkiye, which is faster than routing through the UK. Give us the recipient’s address and phone number when you order.

What if the office wanted the consulate route instead?

Send us their message. Both routes produce a sworn translation certified by a public authority, and domestic offices process notarised translations daily. If an office insists on the consulate stamp for a consular act, we will say so before you pay.
