Turkish marriage certificate (evlenme cüzdanı, Formül B) translation
Certified English translation of the Turkish family booklet (evlenme cüzdanı / aile cüzdanı), the e-Devlet marriage extract and the multilingual Formül B, to the Appendix FM-SE standard for spouse visas, ILR, naturalisation, HMPO name changes and UK divorce applications.
What the receiving body requires
“Where any specified documents provided are not in English or Welsh, the applicant must provide the original and a full translation that can be independently verified by the Entry Clearance Officer, Immigration Officer or the Secretary of State. The translation must be dated and include: (i) confirmation that it is an accurate translation of the original document; (ii) the full name and signature of the translator or an authorised official of the translation company; (iii) the translator or translation company's contact details; and (iv) if the applicant is applying for leave to remain or indefinite leave to remain, certification by a qualified translator and details of the translator or translation company's credentials.”

A civil marriage in Türkiye is performed by a marriage officer (evlendirme memuru), usually at the municipality, and the record is then transmitted to the population register. What you can send to a UK body comes in three forms.
- Evlenme cüzdanı (also called aile cüzdanı, the family booklet). Handed to the couple at the ceremony. It has the spouses' details, the date and place of the marriage, the register references (cilt, sayfa, sıra), the officer's signature and seal, a page recording the registration at the nüfus müdürlüğü, and blank pages for children. Booklets issued since the mid-2000s are in the international multilingual format; older pink booklets are Turkish only.
- Evlenme kayıt örneği (marriage extract), printed by the nüfus müdürlüğü or downloaded from e-Devlet with a barcode. One page, and the quickest to obtain from the UK.
- Formül B (uluslararası evlenme kayıt örneği), the multilingual extract, available from e-Devlet with an e-Apostil since December 2023.
We translate the cover, every completed page, the child pages (marked as blank where they are), the registration stamp, the officer's title and the marital-status annotations that registrars add later, such as a divorce or a death of a spouse.
When a UK body asks for it
- Spouse or partner visa under Appendix FM, where the marriage certificate is a required document and the translation must meet paragraph 1(j) of Appendix FM-SE. See translations for a spouse or partner visa.
- ILR as a partner and naturalisation on the basis of marriage to a British citizen, where the three-year route depends on proving the marriage.
- HM Passport Office, when you want a British passport in the surname you took on marriage.
- Divorce in England and Wales. The online application requires the marriage certificate and, if it is not in English, a certified translation.
- Pensions, banks and probate. Survivor's pensions, joint accounts in a married name and estates where the surviving spouse is identified by a Turkish marriage.
What the translation must contain
Appendix FM-SE paragraph 1(j), quoted below, is the standard for visa evidence: the original plus a full translation that can be independently verified, dated, with a confirmation of accuracy, the full name and signature of the translator or an authorised person of the company, contact details and, for leave to remain and ILR, certification by a qualified translator with details of the company's credentials. Our certification page sets out each of these items and identifies the company by its Ankara Trade Registry number and address. Surnames need attention. Under the Turkish Civil Code a woman takes her husband's surname on marriage and may keep her own in front of it, so the booklet may show a name that differs from her birth documents and from her passport if she never renewed it. We translate the names exactly as printed and record the pre-marriage surname where the booklet gives it. Read names, Turkish characters and transliteration.
Apostille and the multilingual Formül B
The Home Office, HMPO and the family court do not require an apostille on a Turkish marriage record. If you are asked for one by a solicitor or an overseas authority, the Formül B and the marriage extract can be issued with a Turkish e-Apostil online, and the booklet can be apostilled at a kaymakamlık in Türkiye.
Formül B has multilingual headings, but its entries are in Turkish and the UK is not a party to the convention behind it. UK bodies have consistently asked us for a certified translation of it, and the same applies to the multilingual family booklet.
Price and turnaround
A marriage extract or a Formül B is one page: £10.00. The family booklet is normally 2 to 3 pages once the cover, spouse pages and registration page are counted, so £20.00 to £30.00; older booklets with several children's entries can reach 4. Certification is included and no UK VAT is charged. Standard delivery is 1 to 2 working days as a certified PDF; the fast option halves that for 60 per cent more and the economy option doubles it for 20 per cent less. Hard copies travel by courier from Ankara for £30. We have no UK office and cannot offer collection.

Frequently asked questions
Do you translate every page of the booklet, including the empty ones?
We translate every page that has printed or written content and list the blank pages as blank, so the translation accounts for the whole booklet. Send a scan of the cover and all inside pages, even those that look empty.
Which should I send for a spouse visa: the booklet or the e-Devlet extract?
Either is a marriage certificate for Appendix FM purposes, and both have been accepted with our translation. The extract is faster to obtain from the UK and shorter to translate. If you have the booklet to hand, its registration page is useful evidence that the marriage was entered in the register.
We had only a religious ceremony (imam nikahı). Can you translate a document for that?
A religious ceremony alone is not a marriage under Turkish law, and no registry document exists for it. UK bodies need the civil record. If you later married at the municipality, the booklet or extract from that ceremony is what to send.
My passport still shows my maiden name but the booklet shows my married name.
That is common and does not stop the translation. We translate the booklet as it is; it shows both names where the officer recorded the previous surname. For HMPO, the booklet itself is the evidence that links the two names.
We married in the UK and registered it at the Turkish consulate. Which document is that?
The consulate transmits the marriage to the register in Türkiye, after which an evlenme kayıt örneği can be downloaded from e-Devlet. If a UK body wants proof that the marriage is recognised in Türkiye, that extract is the document, and we translate it. For the UK marriage itself, your UK certificate needs no translation.
