Türkiye does not issue a single lifelong birth certificate in the way the General Register Office does. A birth is entered in the family register, and what you hold is one of several documents drawn from it or produced on the way to it.
- Doğum kayıt örneği: a registry extract limited to the birth event, printed by any nüfus müdürlüğü or downloaded from e-Devlet with a verification code. It shows the child's name, sex, place and date of birth, T.C. kimlik number, parents' names and the register location.
- Formül A (uluslararası doğum kayıt örneği): the multilingual extract under the 1976 Vienna Convention, with headings in several languages including English. Available from nüfus müdürlüğü and, since 28 December 2023, through e-Devlet with an e-Apostil.
- Doğum raporu or doğum bildirim formu: the hospital's report of the birth, signed by a doctor, used to register the child. It carries the mother's details, time of birth, weight and the delivering clinician.

In every case we translate the printed entries, the register references (il, ilçe, cilt, hane, birey sıra no), the code key on Formül A, the registrar's stamp and signature, any handwritten annotations and the e-Devlet barcode note.
When a UK body asks for it
- HM Passport Office. A child's first British passport, where the child was born in Türkiye to a British parent, or a parent's own claim to citizenship through descent. HMPO examines the birth entry closely because it establishes who the parents are. See translations for HM Passport Office.
- Consular birth registration with the GRO. Registering a birth abroad with the UK authorities requires the foreign birth certificate and a translation.
- Home Office. Child dependants on a spouse visa, registration of a child as a British citizen (form MN1) and naturalisation, where the parent-child link has to be evidenced.
- HMRC Child Benefit, which asks for the child's birth certificate when the child was born outside the UK.
- Schools and GP surgeries occasionally, when a child born in Türkiye is enrolled and the date of birth has to be verified.
What the translation must contain
The Home Office and HMPO apply the gov.uk certification wording quoted below: confirmation of a true and accurate translation, the date, and the name and contact details of the translator or company. Our certification page states all three, identifies Hacettepe Translation with its Ankara Trade Registry number, and is signed. For HMPO we also add the child's name in the Latin alphabet exactly as it appears in the register, because a passport can only be issued in that spelling.
The place of birth deserves care. Turkish extracts record the registered place (often a village or a district) which may differ from the hospital town on the doğum raporu. We translate what each document says and do not harmonise them; if both are submitted, we point out the difference in a translator's note so the examiner is not surprised.
Apostille and the multilingual Formül A
HMPO, the Home Office, the GRO and HMRC do not require an apostille on a Turkish birth record. Where a UK notary or a court asks for one, the Formül A and the doğum kayıt örneği can both be obtained with a Turkish e-Apostil through e-Devlet, from the UK, at no state fee.
The Formül A is often assumed to need no translation because its headings are multilingual. The United Kingdom is not a party to the Vienna Convention, so UK bodies are not bound to accept it as an English document, and the entries themselves (names, places, the coded fields, the registrar's remarks) are in Turkish. Price and turnaround
A birth extract or Formül A is one page, so the certified translation costs £10.00, with certification included and no UK VAT. A hospital doğum raporu is 1 to 2 pages. We deliver the PDF within 1 working day as standard; the fast option makes it same-day for files received before 11:00 UK time, and the economy option lowers the price by 20 per cent for a two-day turnaround. A signed paper copy from Ankara by courier is £30; we cannot offer collection because we have no UK office.

Frequently asked questions
I have a Formül A with English headings. Do I really need a translation?
For HMPO and the Home Office, yes in our experience. The headings are multilingual but the entries are Turkish, and the UK is not part of the convention that created the form. Ask the receiving body if you want to be sure; if they accept it as it stands, you save £10.
Which document should I get for my child's first British passport?
HMPO wants the birth certificate showing both parents. A doğum kayıt örneği or a Formül A from the nüfus müdürlüğü does that. Many parents also send the child's nüfus kayıt örneği. Our guide to a child's first British passport with Turkish documents lists the full set.
Can you translate the hospital birth report?
Yes. The doğum raporu includes medical fields (time of birth, weight, delivery type) and the clinician's signature, and we translate all of it. HMPO sometimes asks for it when the registry extract was issued long after the birth.
My birth was registered late, and the extract shows a different date from my hospital papers.
We translate each document as it stands and add a translator's note pointing out the discrepancy. A Turkish court decision correcting the date, if you have one, can be translated with them.
The village on my birth extract no longer exists under that name.
We translate the place name as written in the register. If an administrative change has renamed it, we can add the current name in a note, with the source, so that the examiner can reconcile it with your passport.
