Turkish translation in Enfield (Edmonton, Palmers Green)
Enfield has the densest Turkish-speaking population in England: 6.3% of residents gave Turkish as their main language in the 2021 Census. This page sets out the borough bodies that ask for translations and how documents reach Ankara from N9, N13 and N18.
The most Turkish-speaking borough in England
In the 2021 Census 6.3% of Enfield residents gave Turkish as their main language, which made it the borough’s second language after English and the highest share recorded anywhere in London. A decade earlier the 2011 Census had counted 16,704 residents of Turkish ethnicity and 5,922 Turkish Cypriots in the same borough. In Edmonton, Palmers Green and Bush Hill Park that translates into households holding two sets of papers — one issued in Türkiye, one in the UK — and needing each side to be readable by the other.
The Enfield bodies that ask for a translation
The borough’s register office takes notices of marriage. A Turkish national giving notice shows a passport and, where an earlier marriage ended, the decree that ended it; anything not in English has to arrive with a translation, as giving notice of marriage explains. Medical paperwork here usually comes from North Middlesex Hospital in Edmonton or Chase Farm in Enfield: patients continuing treatment started in Türkiye need Turkish medical reports in English, and patients travelling the other way need the English discharge summary in Turkish. When a child arrives from Türkiye mid-year, the council’s admissions team and the school ask for the vaccination record and the last school report; schools and local councils covers what they will take.
There is no branch on Green Lanes
No shopfront in Enfield carries our name. The company is in Ankara, which is why the prices are below the UK market and also why nothing can be handed over in person. Photograph every page, including stamps, seals and the reverse of a certificate, and send the images. A certified PDF comes back the next working day for short civil-status documents; if a paper original is wanted, it is couriered from Ankara for £30 and takes two to four working days. Please do not post original Turkish documents to us — you would only have to get them back.
What Enfield residents send most
Partner and settlement files built on a nüfus kayıt örneği and an adli sicil kaydı; property papers for sales in Türkiye; and, more than in most boroughs, vocational certificates such as an ustalık belgesi, because the barbering, bakery and restaurant trades along the A1010 employ people whose training was in Türkiye.
Frequently asked questions
Can I bring documents to an Enfield address?
No. We have no premises in the borough and no collection point anywhere in the UK. Scans are enough for a certified translation.
My employer wants proof of a Turkish trade qualification. What do you translate?
The certificate itself — ustalık, kalfalık, MYK or a course certificate — with the issuing body’s name and seal rendered in English. Employers usually also want the identity page so the name matches.
The hospital asked for my Turkish records. Do they need certifying?
Clinicians often accept a plain translation, but records that go into a formal file, a claim or an application should be certified. Certification costs nothing extra with us, so we certify by default.
Do you translate documents into Turkish for the nüfus office?
Yes, and for Turkish offices they usually need to be notarised in Türkiye rather than merely certified. See notarised translation in Türkiye.
