HCPC — explained for Turkish readers
The Health and Care Professions Council regulates fifteen health and care professions in the UK, from physiotherapists and radiographers to paramedics and dietitians.
The HCPC keeps the registers for fifteen professions that are neither medicine, nursing, dentistry nor pharmacy: among them physiotherapists, radiographers, paramedics, occupational therapists, dietitians and speech and language therapists. Each title is protected; you cannot call yourself a physiotherapist in the UK without an HCPC number. Applicants trained outside the UK are assessed individually on their training and experience, and the HCPC asks for a detailed course syllabus as well as the certificate.
Türkiye has no single body for these professions. Each is authorised by the Sağlık Bakanlığı on the basis of the diploma, and professional associations such as the Türkiye Fizyoterapistler Derneği are voluntary. Turkish applicants therefore have to assemble evidence of hours, modules and clinical placements.
