UK degree certificate translation into Turkish

What YÖK wants to see

A UK degree certificate (diploma) is issued by the university under its seal, signed by the vice-chancellor or registrar, and states the holder's name, the award (BA, BSc, MA, MSc, MBA, PhD and so on), the subject, the classification where one is given, and the date of conferment. Recognition of that degree in Türkiye is decided by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) through its e-Denklik portal. YÖK's document list asks for the original of the diploma and, in its own words, the original of its Turkish translation certified by a Turkish notary or by a Turkish mission abroad. The same requirement is repeated for the transcript. A UK certified translation, or a translation sworn in the UK, does not meet that description and is returned.

Denklik is needed to work in the Turkish public sector, to practise a regulated profession, to enrol for a postgraduate degree at a Turkish university with a foreign first degree, and for the reduced-term military service that graduates can claim. Apostille on a certified copy

A degree certificate is not signed by a UK public officer, so the FCDO legalises it only after a UK notary or solicitor has certified a copy; GOV.UK gives qualification certificates as the standard example of a document that needs this step. The certified copy is then eligible for the e-Apostille (£35, usually within two working days) or the paper apostille (£45). A UK partner can handle both steps for the FCDO fee plus £20 handling. YÖK verifies degrees directly with the awarding university as well, but an apostilled copy prevents the file being held for further checks and is what the notary in Ankara certifies the translation against.

Translation and notarisation for e-Denklik

We translate the certificate, the solicitor's certification and the apostille into Turkish, keeping the award title in English with the Turkish equivalent alongside (for example “Bachelor of Science with Honours (Lisans)”), rendering the classification as printed (first class, upper second) without converting it to a Turkish grade, and reproducing the university's name in its original form. A translator sworn before an Ankara notary signs; the notary attaches the translation to a copy of the apostilled document. You upload scans to e-Denklik and post the paper set to YÖK, so the original notarised translation goes by courier to you or, more often, straight to a relative in Türkiye who lodges the file. The consulate's translator list is the other route YÖK names; we are not on it, and the notary route is the one we deliver.

Other Turkish readers of the certificate

• Askerlik şubesi, where a graduate's status is recorded for short-term service or for deferment; the office wants the denklik certificate or, pending it, the translated diploma.
• Employers and professional chambers that ask for a translated degree with a job application, and the trade registry when a director's qualification is stated.
• Turkish universities for postgraduate admission before denklik is complete.
• Courts and notaries in cases where a qualification is relevant.

What the degree page costs

A degree certificate with certification and apostille is one page of 1,000 characters: £6.50. The Ankara notary tariff is passed through at about £13.50 per page plus £5 handling; if YÖK or a university asks for the translation to be legalised as well, an apostille at the kaymakamlık is £15. No UK VAT is charged. Translation takes 1 to 2 working days and the notary signs the next working day.
