UK academic transcript translation into Turkish

The transcript as YÖK reads it

A UK transcript (not dökümü, not çizelgesi) is the university registry's record of every module taken, the credits attached to each, the marks awarded and the final classification, printed on secure paper and signed or stamped by the registrar or academic registry. YÖK's e-Denklik document list describes it as a certified record showing all courses taken during higher education with their hours or credits and grades, and asks for the original of a Turkish translation of it certified by a Turkish notary or a Turkish mission abroad. YÖK's assessors use the transcript to compare the content and length of the programme with a Turkish degree at the same level, so a translation that abbreviates module titles or drops the credit column will be sent back.

Some universities now issue transcripts through digital credential services with a verification link instead of a signature. YÖK has accepted such transcripts when the link resolves, but the FCDO cannot apostille a web page; a solicitor certifies a printout and the apostille is attached to that certification.

Applications that depend on it

How module titles and marks are handled

Each module title is translated into Turkish with the English title retained in brackets, because YÖK compares them to Turkish curricula while the awarding university's wording must remain traceable. Credit values (CATS or ECTS) and marks are copied as printed, with a translator's note explaining the UK marking scale and the honours classification bands. Abbreviations such as “P”, “F”, “Cr” and “Ex” are expanded. Where the transcript shows a resit, an aegrotat award or a mitigating-circumstances note, that is translated in full, since assessors ask about gaps. A second linguist checks every figure against the source before the translation goes to the notary.

Certification, apostille and the Ankara notary

The order is the same as for the degree certificate: a UK notary or solicitor certifies the transcript, the FCDO apostilles that certification (e-Apostille £35 or paper £45, either arranged through our UK partner for the FCDO fee plus £20), and only then do we translate, so that the certification and apostille appear in the Turkish text. A translator sworn before an Ankara notary signs, and the notary binds the translation to a copy of the apostilled transcript. The degree certificate and transcript can be certified in the same notarial visit, which keeps the handling fee to one charge. A £15 apostille of the notarised translation is added when a university or YÖK asks for it.

Price for a multi-page document

Transcripts are the longest document in a denklik file: 3 to 6 pages of 1,000 characters is typical, so £19.50 to £39.00 for the translation, with the notary tariff of about £13.50 per translated page and £5 handling on top. A four-year programme with many short modules can reach 8 pages. Translation takes 2 to 3 working days for this length; the economy option doubles the time for 20 per cent less, the fast option halves it for 60 per cent more. No UK VAT is charged. Scans for the e-Denklik upload come by e-mail; the wet-sealed original travels by courier for £30 to the UK or, if you prefer, direct to the person posting your file to YÖK in Ankara.
