Why we are not an ATC member

The Association of Translation Companies certification stamp belongs to its accredited member companies. We are not a member and we do not use the stamp. Here is what we put on a certification page instead.

Saying it plainly

The Association of Translation Companies operates a certification stamp available to companies accredited as its members. Hacettepe Tercüme is a Turkish company registered in Ankara and is not one of them, so the stamp does not appear on anything we issue. We are writing this because agency websites tend to display association logos in a way that leaves customers assuming everyone has one, and because a customer who needs an ATC-stamped translation should know to go elsewhere before paying us.

What the receiving bodies actually require

Membership of a UK association is not a rule in any of the requirements we work to. GOV.UK sets a content test for certifying a translation: a statement that it is a true and accurate translation of the original, the date, and the translator's full name and contact details. Appendix FM-SE adds, for leave to remain and settlement, details of the translation company's credentials. Nothing in either asks who you belong to.

What we put on the page

The company's legal name, the Ankara Trade Registry number 256268, the registered address, our e-mail and telephone, the date, a signature and the accuracy statement. That is the credentials paragraph, and it has been accepted to date by the Home Office, HM Passport Office, universities and UK ENIC. Read our credentials page, which lists exactly what we do and do not hold, and what a certified translation is in the UK.
