Turkish translation in Birmingham
Birmingham holds one of the larger Turkish-speaking communities outside London, without a Turkish consulate of its own. That single fact shapes most of the questions we get from the West Midlands.
A community without a consulate
Birmingham has one of the bigger Turkish and Kurdish populations outside London, alongside Manchester, Leicester and Nottingham, but no consular post. Anything that has to be done by a Turkish consul — a vekaletname, a muvafakatname, registering a birth or a marriage in the Turkish register — means travelling to a consulate, and the West Midlands is served from London rather than from the northern post in Manchester unless the consulates say otherwise. Consulates sometimes run mobile service days in cities without a post; those are announced on their own sites and we mention them under mobile consulate days when we see one. Check before you travel, because the schedule changes.
What can be done without the journey
A great deal, in fact. A certified translation for the Home Office, a university, an employer or a bank never needs a consulate. Nor does a document going to Türkiye if the receiving office there accepts a translation notarised by a Turkish notary — that is done in Ankara on our side and needs nothing from you but a scan, as notarised translation in Türkiye explains. The journey to London is only unavoidable for acts the consulate itself must perform.
Birmingham bodies that ask for translations
The register office takes notices of marriage from Turkish nationals and asks for translations of foreign documents. The University of Birmingham, Aston and Birmingham City University want transcripts and diplomas in English, sometimes with a UK ENIC statement behind them. University Hospitals Birmingham releases records that go to clinics in Türkiye. Immigration appeals from the region are heard by the First-tier Tribunal in Birmingham, and bundles have to be readable, which is a job with a deadline attached rather than a document with a price.

Can you notarise a translation for me without my going to London?
We can have it notarised in Ankara, which Turkish authorities accept. A UK notarisation would require someone to attend a notary in person here, which we cannot do from Ankara.
How quickly can you turn round a tribunal bundle?
It depends on page count. Tell us the hearing date first; we quote against it and say plainly if it cannot be met rather than accepting the work and missing it.
Do you have anyone in Birmingham I can meet?
No. We are an Ankara company with no UK staff or premises. Everything is done by e-mail, telephone and courier.
