Nüfus kayıt örneği — meaning and English translation
A nüfus kayıt örneği is an extract from Türkiye's civil register showing a person's identity, parents, place of registration, marital status and the family entries recorded against them.
The nüfus kayıt örneği is a printout from MERNİS, the central civil register kept by the Directorate General of Civil Registration and Nationality. It lists a person's identity details, parents, place of registration (province, district, volume, household and sequence numbers) and, in the full version, every marriage, divorce, birth and death recorded against the family entry. Any Nüfus Müdürlüğü issues it, and citizens can download a barcoded copy from e-Devlet.
We translate the title as “civil registry extract”, with the Turkish name in brackets on first mention. It is not a birth certificate: a birth certificate records one event, whereas the extract is a snapshot of a living register, which is why receiving bodies want a recent one.
UK caseworkers meet it most often in spouse and partner visa applications as evidence of marital status and family composition. See our page on nüfus kayıt örneği translation.
