NMC — explained for Turkish readers

The Nursing and Midwifery Council registers nurses, midwives and nursing associates in the UK. Overseas-trained nurses must join its register before practising.

Turkish term: Hemşirelik ve Ebelik Konseyi — hemşire ve ebe sicili (Türkiye'de tek bir karşılığı yok) · Last reviewed 31 August 2026

The NMC is the UK regulator for nurses, midwives and, in England, nursing associates. Nobody may use those titles or work in those roles without an NMC PIN. A nurse trained in Türkiye applies through the overseas route: an eligibility check, an English test (IELTS or OET), a computer-based test that can be taken in Türkiye, then the practical OSCE in the UK, followed by an identity and document check before registration is granted.

Türkiye has no direct equivalent. Nursing practice is authorised by the Sağlık Bakanlığı on the basis of the diploma, and the Türk Hemşireler Derneği is a voluntary association rather than a licensing body. The NMC's combination of entry exam, register and disciplinary power is unfamiliar to many Turkish nurses.

At the document stage the NMC asks for certified English translations of any document not in English, from a certified translator. We handle diploma, transcript, registration letter and good-standing documents for Turkish nurses; see translations for NMC registration.
