Naturalisation — explained for Turkish readers
The process by which an adult who has settled in the UK is granted British citizenship by the Home Office under the British Nationality Act 1981.
Naturalisation is how an adult becomes a British citizen by application rather than by birth or descent. The Home Office grants it under section 6 of the British Nationality Act 1981 to applicants who hold ILR or settled status, meet residence and good-character requirements, and pass the Life in the UK test and an English test. The outcome is a certificate of naturalisation, handed over at a citizenship ceremony, and that certificate is the document Turkish offices will want to see.
Turkish law calls the parallel process vatandaşlığın yetkili makam kararıyla kazanılması, the route a British spouse takes to become Turkish. Both countries allow dual nationality, and Türkiye expects the new citizenship to be recorded in your nüfus register through the consulate.
