DBS check — explained for Turkish readers
A criminal record check issued by the Disclosure and Barring Service for England and Wales, at basic, standard or enhanced level, mostly for employment.
A DBS check is a certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service showing a person's criminal record in England and Wales, or confirming there is none. A basic check, which anyone can apply for, lists unspent convictions and cautions. Standard and enhanced checks are requested through an employer for work with children, vulnerable adults or in regulated sectors and show more. Scotland and Northern Ireland run separate schemes.
The Turkish equivalent is the adli sicil kaydı printed from e-Devlet, and a DBS certificate is the document Turkish citizenship-by-marriage files call for from a British resident. Two points differ from Turkish practice: the certificate is posted to you rather than downloaded, and it is not the document used for visas and residence abroad, which is the ACRO police certificate.
