ACRO police certificate — explained for Turkish readers
A criminal record certificate issued by the ACRO Criminal Records Office for people applying for visas, residence or citizenship abroad.
The ACRO Criminal Records Office, a police-run office, issues police certificates to people who have lived in the UK and need to show their record to a foreign government. The certificate draws on the Police National Computer, states either “no trace” or lists convictions, and is the document foreign consulates, including Türkiye's, mean when they ask a UK resident for a police clearance. Many receiving countries want it under six months old.
Turkish readers will recognise it as the equivalent of an adli sicil kaydı, and it serves that role for a Turkish ikamet izni, work permit or citizenship application. For Turkish use it needs an FCDO apostille, which at present is done on the paper certificate rather than through the e-Apostille service, followed by a Turkish translation.
