CIOL — explained for Turkish readers
The Chartered Institute of Linguists, a UK professional body operating under Royal Charter. Its members self-certify translations; it awards the Chartered Linguist title.
CIOL, the Chartered Institute of Linguists, is a UK professional body for translators, interpreters and other language professionals, incorporated by Royal Charter in 2005. Its membership grades are MCIL and FCIL, and experienced members who meet practice and continuing-development conditions may register as Chartered Linguists (CL).
On certified translations CIOL's position is the same as ITI's: the UK has no state-accredited sworn translator system, and practising translators self-certify. A CIOL member may quote their membership number on a certification, but nothing in UK law or in any public body's rules makes this a condition of acceptance.
Chartered status has no Turkish counterpart. Türkiye's recognition of translators runs through university degrees and, for legal documents, the notary's oath. Hacettepe Translation has no CIOL members and makes no Chartered Linguist claim; our credentials are those of a registered Ankara company working with notary-sworn translators, as set out in sworn translators in Turkey vs certified translators in the UK.
