Academic document FAQs

Translating diplomas, transcripts and school certificates in both directions: UK ENIC and its waiver list, UCAS and universities, professional regulators, and YÖK and MEB recognition in Türkiye.

Last reviewed 31 August 2026

Academic documents travel in both directions. A Turkish lise diploması, university diploma or transkript goes to UK ENIC, UCAS, a university admissions office, an employer or a regulator, and needs a certified English translation; UK ENIC's translation waiver covers fourteen languages and Turkish is not one of them. A UK degree certificate, transcript or set of GCSE and A-level certificates goes to YÖK or MEB for denklik and needs an FCDO apostille followed by a translation notarised in Türkiye or certified through the consulate. We do not convert grades or claim equivalence; that is what the recognition bodies decide. Start with academic and education translation and translations for UK ENIC.

Frequently asked questions

Does UK ENIC accept Turkish documents without translation?

No. UK ENIC's translation waiver service covers fourteen languages and Turkish is not among them, so a certified English translation of the diploma and transcript is required with the application, and the waiver fee does not apply to you. See translations for UK ENIC statement of comparability.

What do I send to UK ENIC or UCAS: diploma, transcript or both?

ENIC asks for the final certificate and the transcript (not dökümü) with translations. UCAS and universities usually want the transcript and, if you have graduated, the diploma; for a lise graduate the diploma and the transcript of the last years. Send us both and we advise which pages matter.

Do you convert Turkish grades to UK classifications?

No. Grades are translated as written, with the scale stated (4.00 GPA, 100-point average, 5-point lise scale). Converting them would be a comparison rather than a translation, and comparison is UK ENIC's role. Where the document does not state its scale, a translator's note explains it so that the reader is not left guessing.

My diploma is on e-Devlet. Is that enough?

Many universities issue verifiable diplomas and transcripts through e-Devlet. We translate the PDF and reproduce the verification code so the receiving body can check it. UK ENIC or a university may still ask for a scan of the paper diploma as well; send both if you have them and we translate whichever is required.

Does my Turkish diploma need an apostille for the UK?

Not for UK ENIC, UCAS, universities or the healthcare regulators, all of which ask for certified translations rather than legalisation. An employer, a professional body abroad or a foreign university may differ, so ask them before paying for one. If you want an apostille anyway, it is done at the valilik on paper.

What does YÖK need for recognising my UK degree?

The degree certificate, transcript and diploma supplement, apostilled by the FCDO and translated into Turkish by a notary-sworn translator (notarised) or through the consulate, submitted through e-Denklik. Processing takes months. We produce the notarised translations in Ankara. See YÖK denklik.

How are GCSEs and A-levels recognised in Türkiye?

Through MEB lise denklik at a provincial education directorate or the education counsellor's office at the London embassy, with the certificates and school records translated into Turkish. Requirements vary with the school level and the year of study; see MEB lise denklik for the document list.

Do regulators such as the GMC have special translation rules?

Yes. The GMC asks for the original-language document and a complete translation made directly from it, with the translator's or service's contact details, stamped and signed. The NMC asks for certified translations from a certified translator. Our certificate is adapted to the regulator you name.

Can you translate course descriptions (ders içerikleri) for credit transfer?

Yes. Course descriptions are long documents, so they are priced per page and usually ordered at the economy tier. Tell us which modules the receiving university needs; translating a selection with a clear statement of scope in the certification is common and acceptable, and saves paying for modules nobody will read.

Send us the document and we will quote a fixed price
