The Turkish Trade Registry Gazette (Türkiye Ticaret Sicili Gazetesi) is published by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) under the Commercial Code, and every event a company must register is announced in it: incorporation (kuruluş) with the full articles, capital increases (sermaye artırımı), appointments and removals of managers or board members, changes of signatories, address, branches, mergers, conversions and liquidation, and the minutes of general assemblies. Each announcement is headed by the registry office (for example Ankara Ticaret Sicili Müdürlüğü), the registry number (sicil no), the MERSİS number and the registration date, and it appears in an issue identified by number and date (Sayı and Tarih) and by page. Issues since 2004 can be viewed on the gazette's website, and older ones in its archive; a certified copy of a page (onaylı gazete sureti) is issued by TOBB or the registry office with a stamp.
A gazette page is printed in three narrow columns of small type, and one page carries the announcements of several unrelated companies. We translate your company's announcement in full, from the registry header to the closing line, reproduce the issue number, date and page, and state on the translation that the other announcements on the page are not part of the document translated. Who asks for it in the UK
- Companies House. Registering a UK establishment of a Turkish company requires certified copies of its constitutional documents and, where they are not in English, a certified translation. The incorporation announcement, which prints the articles in full, is often the document used. See translations for Companies House.
- Banks. Know-your-customer checks on a Turkish company opening a UK account or receiving a large payment: who the shareholders and directors are, and when they changed.
- HMRC. VAT registration of a business established outside the UK, and corporation tax questions about a UK branch.
- Home Office. A sponsor licence or an expansion-worker application where the UK business has to prove its link to a Turkish parent.
- UK customers, suppliers and solicitors running due diligence before a contract, a tender or a transaction.
What the translation must contain
Companies House, banks and HMRC accept a translation certified in the gov.uk form quoted below, with the date, the signature and the name and contact details of the translator or company; ours carries our own Ankara Trade Registry number, which readers of this document tend to appreciate. Company-type suffixes are not converted: Ltd. Şti. stays Ltd. Şti. and A.Ş. stays A.Ş., with a note that they denote a Turkish limited liability company and a joint-stock company, because converting them to Ltd or plc would misdescribe the entity. Capital figures follow the currency of the day, so an incorporation from 1998 shows old lira with a note, and share values are given as printed.
Which issues to translate
The gazette prints changes, not a current picture, so a company's present position is reconstructed from the incorporation announcement and every later amendment: a bank asking who the directors are today needs the most recent appointment announcement and any removal since. If the reader wants a single up-to-date statement, the certificate of activity from the chamber or the registry's certificate of registration (ticaret sicili tasdiknamesi) does that in one page, and the gazette pages serve as the underlying evidence. A certified copy of a gazette page can be apostilled at the valilik if a UK body asks, though Companies House and banks generally have not.
Price and turnaround
An incorporation announcement with the articles is 4 to 8 pages of 1,000 characters, £40.00 to £80.00; a change of director or address is a single page, £10.00. We count only the characters of your announcement, not the whole gazette page. Our certificate comes with it at no charge, and no UK VAT applies. Delivery is 2 to 3 working days as a certified PDF, with the economy and fast options at minus 20 and plus 60 per cent. A signed hard copy from Ankara by courier is £30; we have no UK office, so nothing is collected.

Frequently asked questions
Can you translate only my company's announcement when other companies share the page?
Yes. Your announcement is translated in full and the translation states that the rest of the page is not included. This is the accepted practice for gazette pages, and no UK body has objected to it.
Is a download from the gazette website acceptable?
Companies House and banks have accepted downloaded pages with our translation to date. If a body insists on a certified copy, TOBB or the registry office issues one, and the stamp is translated with the page.
Which issues does Companies House need for a UK establishment?
The constitutional documents, which means the incorporation announcement with the articles and every amendment to them. The registration form also asks for details of directors, which the appointment announcements support.
What is the difference between the sicil number and the MERSİS number?
The sicil number is the company's number at its local registry office; the MERSİS number is its national sixteen-digit identifier. Both appear on the announcement and both are copied exactly.
The capital shows 5,000,000,000 TL. Is that a misprint?
No. Before 2005 Turkish lira figures carried six extra zeros. We translate the figure as printed and add a note that it is in old lira.
