What a Turkish payslip contains

Turkish employers must give each employee a monthly payslip (maaş bordrosu, ücret bordrosu or ücret pusulası), and most produce it from payroll software or through their accountant. It records the employee's name, T.C. kimlik number and SGK registration, the pay period and days worked, gross pay (brüt ücret), overtime and allowances such as meal and travel payments, and then the statutory deductions in a fixed order: the employee's social security contribution, the unemployment insurance contribution, income tax and stamp duty (damga vergisi). It closes with total deductions, net pay (net ödenen) and the cumulative tax base for the year (kümülatif vergi matrahı). Since 2022 a line for the minimum-wage exemption appears in place of the older minimum living allowance. Payslips are often issued unsigned as an e-bordro, and some larger employers sign them electronically.

We translate every line with its standard English payroll term, keep the amounts in Turkish lira, reproduce the table so that each figure sits opposite the original, and translate the employer's stamp, signature block or electronic-signature note.

When a UK body asks for it

  • Spouse or partner visa. A sponsor who is working in Türkiye and returning to the UK with a confirmed job offer relies on overseas salaried employment, and Appendix FM-SE asks for payslips covering the qualifying period, a letter from the employer and bank statements showing the salary paid in. See bringing your Turkish spouse to the UK.
  • ILR as a partner, where the sponsor's income is evidenced in the same way.
  • HMRC, for employment income earned in Türkiye by someone who became UK resident during the tax year.
  • Mortgage lenders and banks, some of which accept foreign-currency salary income with translated payslips and an employer letter.
  • Letting agents and landlords, assessing affordability for a tenant who has just arrived from Türkiye.
  • Family court, in maintenance cases where a party's earnings are in Türkiye.

What the translation must contain

Appendix FM-SE paragraph 1(j), quoted below, is the standard for visa evidence: a dated translation with a confirmation of accuracy, the translator's or company representative's name and signature, contact details and, for leave to remain and ILR, certification by a qualified translator with the company's credentials. Appendix FM-SE also treats payslips that are not on the employer's formal stationery as needing a letter from the employer confirming that they are genuine, and we translate that letter with the payslips. HMRC, lenders and agents apply the gov.uk wording, which the same certificate meets. Our certificate carries the company's Ankara Trade Registry number, and each payslip is attached.

The gross figure is what the Home Office works from, and it must be identifiable at a glance. We label brüt ücret as gross pay and net ödenen as net pay, itemise each deduction with its English name and the Turkish in brackets, and render the cumulative tax base as such rather than as an unexplained total. Amounts stay in Turkish lira; the Home Office converts at the rate its guidance specifies. Where you send six payslips, the certificate lists them by month so the caseworker can tick them off against the bank statement. Read how we handle dates, numbers and currency.

Apostille and employer letters

No UK body asks for an apostille on payslips. What the Home Office and lenders want instead is the employer's letter confirming employment, salary and the authenticity of the payslips, on headed paper and signed. We translate it in the same order, and we keep the job title and the employer's name consistent across the letter, the payslips and the SGK record if you send that too.

Price and turnaround

A payslip is well under 1,000 characters, so each one is £10.00 and a set of six is £60.00, with certification included and no UK VAT. Twelve payslips with an employer letter is a typical order for a spouse visa and qualifies for the economy option at 20 per cent less if time allows. Standard turnaround is 1 to 2 working days as a certified PDF; the fast option halves that for 60 per cent more. A signed hard copy by courier from Ankara is £30; we have no UK office and cannot offer collection.

What you receive

  • Translation of each payslip in table form with gross pay, itemised deductions and net pay labelled in standard payroll terms and amounts in Turkish lira
  • Employer letter translated where supplied; payslips listed by month on the certificate
  • Certification page meeting Appendix FM-SE paragraph 1(j) and the gov.uk wording, dated and signed with company credentials
  • Copies attached; certified PDF by e-mail, courier hard copy optional

Frequently asked questions

My payslips are unsigned printouts from the payroll system. Are they acceptable?

Appendix FM-SE expects payslips on the employer's formal stationery or a letter from the employer confirming they are genuine. Ask your employer for a stamped set or the letter, and we translate whichever you obtain.

Which figure does the Home Office use, gross or net?

Gross annual income. The translation labels gross pay clearly on every payslip so it can be added up across the period.

Will you convert my salary into pounds?

No. The Home Office and lenders apply their own exchange rates on their own dates. The lira figures stay as printed.

My employer sends payslips as an Excel file.

Export or print them to PDF so that each month is a fixed page, then send those. A spreadsheet can be edited, which is why bodies prefer a fixed document with a stamp or a letter.

Do the payslips need to match my bank statement?

The Home Office checks that the net pay on each payslip appears as a credit on the bank statement. We translate both so the descriptions and amounts can be compared line by line; see bank statement translation.
