The Turkish high-school diploma (lise diploması) is issued by the school on a template of the Ministry of National Education (Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı, MEB) when a student completes the four-year upper-secondary programme, or three years for those who graduated before the 2005 reform. It records the school's full name and type, the field or branch studied (alan/dal), the graduation date, the diploma number and the diploma grade (diploma notu). Since the 2013-14 school year the grade is out of 100; earlier diplomas show a grade out of 5 with a descriptor such as pekiyi (very good). The school principal signs it and applies the school seal, and the district education directorate adds its own stamp.
The school type matters to a UK reader. Anadolu Lisesi, Fen Lisesi, Sosyal Bilimler Lisesi, Anadolu İmam Hatip Lisesi, Mesleki ve Teknik Anadolu Lisesi and Açık Öğretim Lisesi follow different programmes, and we keep the Turkish name in the translation with a bracketed description of the type, rather than inventing an English school name. The diploma is often accompanied by a transcript of the final years (not dökümü) and, for vocational schools, a workplace training record; those are separate documents and are counted separately.

When a UK body asks for it
- UCAS and university admissions. Applicants offering the lise diploması for a foundation year, an international year one or, with a high grade, direct entry to some degrees. Universities want the diploma and the transcript together. See translations for UCAS and university admissions.
- UK ENIC. A Statement of Comparability for the diploma requires a certified translation, and Turkish is not one of the languages covered by ENIC's translation waiver.
- Student visa. Where the qualification listed on your CAS was used to obtain your place, the Home Office can ask for it, and Turkish nationals are not exempt from providing it.
- Colleges and sixth forms admitting a student who moved to the UK part-way through secondary education.
- Employers, apprenticeship providers and the armed forces, where a GCSE-level entry requirement is assessed against the Turkish diploma, often with an ENIC statement.
What the translation must contain
Universities, ENIC and the Home Office apply the gov.uk standard quoted below, and UCAS states that applicants may not translate their own documents. Our certification page confirms accuracy, gives the date and identifies Hacettepe Translation with its Ankara Trade Registry number, address and signature, and the diploma is attached as a copy.
Grades are translated, not converted. A diploma grade of 87.45 stays 87.45 with a note that the scale is 0 to 100; a grade of 4 on the older scale stays 4 with the descriptor. Converting a Turkish grade to a UK grade is the admissions office's job, and ENIC's, and a translation that does it for them has been rejected as an alteration. The field of study is translated with its Turkish name in brackets, since “Fen Bilimleri” and “Eşit Ağırlık” are the terms admissions staff look up. Apostille
UK ENIC, UCAS and universities do not require an apostille on a Turkish diploma; they verify qualifications directly where they need to. If a body abroad asks for one, the diploma is apostilled at the kaymakamlık after the district education directorate has confirmed the principal's signature, and a family member in Türkiye can do this in a day. The e-Devlet diploma record cannot be apostilled at present.

The diploma is one page of well under 1,000 characters, so the certified translation costs £10.00 with certification included and no UK VAT. A final-year transcript sent with it is usually 1 to 2 pages more. We deliver the certified PDF within 1 working day; the fast option makes it same-day for scans received before 11:00 UK time, which helps when a university has set a deadline for meeting a condition. A signed hard copy by courier from Ankara is £30, and there is no collection because we have no UK office.

Frequently asked questions
Will you convert my diploma grade into A-level or GCSE grades?
No. The translation reproduces the grade on its Turkish scale with a note stating the scale. Comparison with UK qualifications is done by the university or by UK ENIC, and a translation that converts grades is treated as altered.
How do you translate the name of my school?
We keep the Turkish name and add a description of the school type in brackets, for example Ankara Atatürk Anadolu Lisesi (Anatolian high school, selective academic upper-secondary). An invented English name would not match the name a university finds when it verifies the diploma.
I graduated from Açık Öğretim Lisesi. Is that treated differently?
The diploma is a lise diploması like any other, and we translate it in the same way with the school type described as an open (distance-learning) high school. How a university weighs it is for the university.
Do I need the transcript as well as the diploma?
Most universities and ENIC ask for both. The transcript shows subjects and marks by year; the diploma shows the final grade. Send both together and they are certified as one order.
My diploma is from before 2005 and shows a grade out of 5.
We translate it with the descriptor and a note that the scale was 1 to 5 at the time. Older diplomas were three-year programmes, and ENIC takes that into account; the translation itself simply states the graduation date and the years shown.
