UK state and private pension statement translation into Turkish

Turkish translation of a DWP State Pension letter, pension forecast or private pension statement, notarised in Ankara, for duty-free vehicle import, residence permits, SGK and Turkish banks. From £6.50 per page; the consulate route for the emekli araç scheme explained.

Turkish: emekli maaş belgesi; emeklilik yazısı (State Pension award letter); emeklilik tahmini (State Pension forecast); özel emeklilik hesap dökümü (private pension statement) · Last reviewed 31 August 2026

What the receiving body requires

Summary of the Turkish Consulate General in London's information note on outside translations (checked 29 August 2026): where the consulate requires a translation, it must be made by a translator on the consulate's accredited register and then certified at the consular notary unit; the note gives a UK pension statement for duty-free vehicle import as one example.

Which pension document you are holding

Three UK papers get called a pension statement (emekli maaş belgesi, emeklilik yazısı). The State Pension award letter from the Department for Work and Pensions tells you the weekly amount and the date payment starts; the DWP International Pension Centre issues it to people living abroad. The State Pension forecast is the pre-retirement version: GOV.UK describes it as showing how much State Pension you could get, when you can get it and whether you can increase it, obtainable online, by posting form BR19, or from the Future Pension Centre. A private or workplace pension statement comes from the scheme or the provider (Aviva, Nest, the NHS Pension Scheme, a local government fund) and shows the annual pension in payment or the fund value.

For Turkish purposes the award letter is the one that counts, because it proves that a pension is actually being paid. A forecast proves entitlement in the future and is rarely what an office wants.

Why Turkish offices ask for it

  • Duty-free vehicle import for retirees. A Turkish citizen who retires abroad and moves back can bring one vehicle into Türkiye under the emekli scheme. Customs wants proof that a foreign pension is in payment; the London consulate's note on this subject lists the pension statement among the documents that must be translated by a translator on the consulate's register and certified at its notary unit. Read taking a UK vehicle to Türkiye.
  • Residence permit for a British retiree. The Göç İdaresi asks a foreign national settling in Türkiye to show regular income; a translated pension letter is the standard evidence.
  • SGK. Under the UK–Türkiye social security convention a person with periods in both countries may need to show the UK pension decision when the Turkish pension is calculated, and a widow claiming a survivor's pension shows the deceased's UK award.
  • Turkish banks. Opening an account or taking a loan on pension income.
  • Kesin dönüş and tax. Customs and the tax office read the pension letter as evidence of residence abroad and of foreign income.

Two translation routes, chosen by destination

If the document is going to the consulate in London, Manchester or Edinburgh for the vehicle scheme, use a translator from the consulate's own register and book the tercüme tasdiki appointment; we are not on that register. If the document is going to an office inside Türkiye (customs at the port of entry, Göç İdaresi, SGK, a bank), a translation sworn before an Ankara notary is the domestic form and has been accepted by those offices to date. Our explainer sworn translation for use in Türkiye sets the two side by side.

Apostille for a DWP letter

Most receiving offices in Türkiye take the pension letter with a notarised translation and no apostille. If one is demanded, note that a DWP letter is computer-generated and usually unsigned, so the FCDO will normally need a UK solicitor or notary to certify it before legalising; a private provider's statement always needs that certification. The e-Apostille (£35) is available for solicitor-certified documents. We translate whatever is attached: the letter, the certification and the apostille together.

Pages, price and delivery

A State Pension award letter is 1 to 2 pages of 1,000 characters, £6.50 to £13.00; a private scheme statement with its notes is 2 to 4 pages. Add the Ankara notary tariff at about £13.50 per page plus £5 handling, and £15 if the notarised translation itself needs an apostille from the kaymakamlık. No UK VAT is charged. Translation is ready in 1 to 2 working days and the notary signs within a day. A PDF comes by e-mail; the wet-sealed original, which customs and the Göç İdaresi keep, goes by courier for £30 to the UK or to your address in Türkiye. We have no UK office and no collection service.

What you receive

Frequently asked questions

I am importing a car under the emekli scheme. Which translation do I need?

The consulate's note asks for a translation by a translator on its own register, certified at its notary unit, for the file it prepares. If customs in Türkiye later asks for a further translated document, a notarised translation from Ankara is the form they use domestically. Check which office you are dealing with before ordering.

Is a forecast enough for a residence permit?

Usually not. The Göç İdaresi wants to see income actually received. The award letter or recent bank statements showing the pension credits are what officers have accepted to date. See bank statement translation.

My pension letter is several years old. Will it be accepted?

Offices generally want a document from the current year. The International Pension Centre issues an up-to-date letter on request, and private providers send an annual statement.

Do you convert the weekly amount into a monthly lira figure?

No. We translate the figures as printed, in pounds and per week or per year as the letter states. Turkish offices apply their own conversion.

Do you need the paper letter?

A clear scan is enough for the Ankara notary. Keep the original; customs and the Göç İdaresi usually want to see it beside the notarised translation.
