Statements Turkish offices will read

A bank statement (banka hesap dökümü, hesap ekstresi) from a UK bank or building society lists the account holder, the sort code and account number, the period and every transaction with a running balance. Offices in Türkiye ask for it for two reasons: to see that money exists (a balance) or to see that money moves regularly (salary, pension, rent). They want statements issued by the bank, either the posted paper statement or the PDF downloaded from online banking with the bank's name and your details in the header. A transaction list exported to a spreadsheet, or a screenshot of an app, is not a statement.

Tell us what the office is looking for. If it is income, three to six months of the current account is usual. If it is a balance, one recent statement of the savings account is enough, and translating the rest wastes notary fees.

Who asks for it in Türkiye

  • Göç İdaresi. A British spouse or retiree applying for a residence permit shows means of support; statements with pension or salary credits are what officers have accepted to date. See Turkish residence permit for a British spouse.
  • Family courts. Maintenance and matrimonial property cases where UK income or assets are at issue.
  • Inheritance. Where the estate includes UK accounts, the Turkish court or notary handling the veraset ilamı and the tax office assessing inheritance tax want to see the balance at the date of death.
  • Turkish banks. Source-of-funds checks for a large transfer, a mortgage on a Turkish property or a non-resident account.
  • Gelir İdaresi. A tax office checking foreign income or the source of money brought into Türkiye.
  • Tapu. Not the tapu office itself, but the buyer's bank and the notary handling a property purchase sometimes ask for the statement showing the purchase funds. See buying property in Türkiye from the UK.

Legalisation route

Bank statements are private documents. GOV.UK's guidance allows legalisation of such documents only after a UK notary or solicitor has certified them, which the FCDO then apostilles; the e-Apostille at £35 is available for that certification. Most of the offices above accept the notarised translation without an apostille, and the Göç İdaresi in particular has not asked for one in cases we have seen. Courts in contested cases occasionally do. Confirm before you pay a solicitor; if the answer is no, a clear scan of the statement is all the Ankara notary needs.

Handling the figures

We translate the headings, the transaction descriptions and the bank's notes; the figures, dates and references are reproduced exactly, in pounds, with the UK date format explained in a translator's note where a Turkish reader might reverse day and month. Transaction descriptions are often abbreviations (DD, SO, BGC, FPI); we expand each with its Turkish equivalent once and keep the abbreviation thereafter. We do not redact anything unless you ask, because a notary cannot certify a translation of a document that differs from the copy attached. Our note on dates, numbers and currency explains the conventions.

Price

A monthly statement is 2 to 3 pages of 1,000 characters, so £13.00 to £19.50 per month; six months of a busy current account can reach 15 to 20 pages, where the economy tier at 20 per cent less is sensible. The Ankara notary tariff of about £13.50 applies to every page, plus £5 handling per document, which is why we suggest sending only the months the office needs. An apostille of the translation is £15. No UK VAT is charged. Turnaround is 1 to 3 working days plus a day for the notary; the PDF comes by e-mail and the wet-sealed original, which the Göç İdaresi or court keeps, goes by courier for £30 to the UK or to Türkiye. No collection.

What you receive

  • Turkish translation of each statement with headings, transaction descriptions expanded, figures and dates reproduced exactly
  • Notarial certificate from an Ankara notary attached to a copy of the statement
  • Apostille of the notarised translation where a court or bank asks
  • PDF by e-mail; wet-sealed original by courier to the UK or to Türkiye

Frequently asked questions

Can I black out transactions I do not want a Turkish court to see?

Not for a notarised translation. The notary attaches the copy we translated, and a redacted copy raises questions. If privacy matters, ask the bank for a statement of a different account or a shorter period instead.

Does an online banking PDF count as an original?

For the Ankara notary, yes; the notary certifies the translation against the copy supplied. For the Turkish office, a PDF with the bank's header has been accepted to date; a few banks in Türkiye ask for a stamped paper statement, which your UK branch can print.

Do you translate a Monzo, Starling or Revolut statement?

Yes. App-based banks issue PDF statements with the account details in the header. Revolut accounts held with a Lithuanian entity are a foreign bank's document rather than a UK one; the translation is the same, but any solicitor certification for an apostille must be by a UK solicitor.

How many months does the Göç İdaresi want?

Practice varies by province. Applicants have been asked for three to six months of statements showing regular income, or a balance sufficient for the permit period. Ask the office for its current figure before you order.

Can you send the original to my lawyer in Türkiye?

Yes. Courier inside Türkiye is quicker and cheaper than the £30 international rate and is what most clients choose for court and residence files.
