Three HMRC-format documents

These forms are designed by HM Revenue and Customs but issued by the employer. GOV.UK puts it briefly: you get a P45 form if you stop working for an employer and a P60 form if you are working for them at the end of the tax year. The P60 (yıllık gelir ve vergi belgesi) summarises the tax year to 5 April: total pay, tax deducted, National Insurance contributions, the employer's PAYE reference and your National Insurance number. The P45 (işten ayrılma belgesi) records the leaving date and the pay and tax to that date. A payslip (maaş bordrosu) is the monthly or weekly statement of gross pay, deductions, pension contributions and net pay. Together they show an unbroken record of employment and earnings, which is what Turkish procedures are looking for.

Which Turkish procedure wants which form

  • Dövizle askerlik. The consulates' document lists for employees pair an employment certificate with payslips; the Nantes note specifies at least three years of payslips, excluding periods spent in Türkiye. Three P60s cover three tax years in three pages and are usually accepted in place of thirty-six payslips, but confirm with your consulate. See dövizle askerlik from the UK.
  • SGK yurtdışı borçlanması. Buying back UK years for a Turkish pension turns on the HMRC National Insurance record, with P60s as supporting evidence for the years being claimed. Read SGK yurtdışı borçlanması.
  • Turkish banks assessing a mortgage or loan for a UK resident, which ask for the last three to six payslips and the latest P60.
  • Residence permit for a British spouse, where the Göç İdaresi wants proof of income.
  • Turkish courts deciding maintenance, where the other side's UK income is shown by payslips.
  • Tax office queries on foreign-source income for a Turkish tax resident, where UK tax paid is evidenced by the P60.

The consulate step and the Ankara step

When payslips are shown at the Turkish Consulate General for a dövizle askerlik application, the officer reads them in English and a translation is not listed among the requirements; ask before ordering. The translation is for the askerlik şubesi, SGK, a bank, the Göç İdaresi or a court in Türkiye. For those offices we translate each form, a translator sworn before an Ankara notary signs, and the notary attaches the translations to copies of the forms. Three P60s and a set of payslips are notarised in one act, so the £5 handling fee is charged once.

Apostille rarely needed

Payslips and P60s are private documents, so the FCDO would apostille only a solicitor-certified copy (e-Apostille £35, paper £45, either via our UK partner for the FCDO fee plus £20). Askerlik offices, SGK and banks have accepted the notarised translation without an apostille to date. Courts sometimes want one, and the tax office may ask for the P60 to be legalised when it is relied on for double-taxation relief. We tell you which applies to the office you name before you pay for legalisation. Where the translation itself must be legalised, an apostille of the notarial certificate at the Ankara kaymakamlık is £15.

How figures and codes are handled

Every figure is copied as printed, in pounds, with no conversion; the tax year is written as “6 April 2025 – 5 April 2026” so a Turkish reader is not misled by the UK year label. Tax codes, National Insurance categories and abbreviations such as PAYE, NIC, SSP and SMP are expanded and given a short Turkish description in brackets. Deductions for pensions, student loans and salary sacrifice are translated with their UK names retained, since SGK examiners compare them to Turkish contribution types. A second linguist checks every number against the source before the notary sees the file.

Price per form and delivery

A P60 or P45 is one page of 1,000 characters, £6.50; a payslip is usually well under 1,000 characters and counts as one page as well, so a year of monthly payslips is £78 and three P60s £19.50. The notary tariff is passed through at about £13.50 per translated page plus £5 handling per act; an apostille of the translation is £15. No UK VAT is charged. Translation takes 1 to 2 working days for a typical set and the notary a further day; a three-year run of payslips takes 3 to 4 working days. Scans arrive by e-mail; the wet-sealed originals follow by courier for £30 to the UK or at a lower rate within Türkiye. There is no collection point.

What you receive

  • Notarial certificate from an Ankara notary binding the set to copies of the forms in a single act
  • Translation of the solicitor's certification and apostille where a court or tax office required legalisation
  • PDF by e-mail; wet-sealed originals by courier

Frequently asked questions

Will three P60s do instead of 36 payslips for dövizle askerlik?

Consulates have accepted P60s as the annual summary in many files, but the published lists say payslips. Ask your consulate; if it wants payslips, we translate them at £6.50 each and notarise the set together.

My payslips are electronic PDFs from a payroll portal. Is that a problem?

No. We translate the PDF and note the portal source. For a court that wants legalisation, ask your employer for a stamped print so a solicitor can certify it.

Can you translate a P60 from ten years ago for SGK?

Yes. Older forms have a different layout and sometimes handwritten entries; each is translated in full. SGK primarily relies on the HMRC contribution record, so order that too; see HMRC tax documents translation.

Do you convert the pound amounts to lira?

No. Amounts stay in pounds; the Turkish office applies its own exchange rate. A translation showing converted figures is treated as altered.

Is a P11D or a P2 coding notice handled the same way?

Yes. Any HMRC-format form is priced per page and notarised with the rest of the set.
