Location and who it serves

The Consulate General of the Republic of Türkiye in Manchester (Manchester Başkonsolosluğu) is at 14 Oxford Court, Manchester M2 3WQ, close to Oxford Road station and the university district. It was opened to take the northern half of England away from London's caseload. Its district covers the north of England; the exact list of counties is published on the consulate's own site at manchester-bk.mfa.gov.tr, and if you live near the boundary, in the Midlands for example, check that list before booking, because a post will not process a file from outside its district.

Opening hours change around Turkish and UK public holidays — check the current hours on the consulate’s own website before travelling. Appointments are made through konsolosluk.gov.tr, the single booking system for all Turkish missions, and you log in with your T.C. kimlik number. Slots for the notary unit and for passport biometrics tend to fill weeks ahead around the summer holidays.

Documents that need no translation here

Manchester applies the same rule as London: no outside sworn translation is asked for any document obtained from British authorities, and the consulate names the passport, birth certificate and marriage certificate as examples. A consular officer reads the English original. So for registering a birth in Leeds or a marriage in Liverpool you bring the UK certificate and identity documents, and nothing else in Turkish.

The consulate does demand a translation for a smaller group of documents, typically a certificate of no impediment, a DBS certificate for a citizenship-by-marriage file, or a pension statement for a duty-free vehicle import. Bringing an interpreter

If one party to a notarial act does not speak Turkish, the consulate requires a sworn Turkish interpreter to be present, and the interpreter's details are recorded on the deed. The most common cases are a British spouse consenting to a child's passport or travel, and a British father acknowledging paternity. Book the interpreter before the appointment, not on the day.
