UK citizens: visa-free entry to Turkey rules
British citizens travel to Türkiye without a visa for short visits, up to 90 days in any 180. Longer stays, work and residence with a Turkish spouse are a different matter and need documents in Turkish.
Short visits
British citizens do not need a visa to visit Türkiye as tourists or for business, within a limit of 90 days in any 180-day period. The e-Visa that older guides describe is no longer part of the process for this passport. Passport validity rules apply and are stricter than many travellers expect, so read the entry requirements on the GOV.UK travel advice page before you book rather than at check-in.
When the 90 days are not enough
Retiring to the coast, staying with family for a season, buying a property and dealing with the tapu office, or moving with a Turkish spouse all take you past a short visit and into the residence permit system. An ikamet application is made to the provincial migration authority and rests on documents that must be in Turkish: a marriage certificate, proof of income or pension, health insurance, and a tenancy agreement or title deed. Anything issued in the UK needs an FCDO apostille first and a translation afterwards.
Working there
A residence permit is not a work permit. Employment requires a separate permission applied for by the employer, and the qualification documents behind it are read in Turkish translation, notarised in Türkiye.
