Our position on ISO 17100

ISO 17100 is an audited certification for translation services. We do not hold it. We do apply two of the things it requires — qualified translators and a second linguist's revision — and we would rather say that than imply the certificate.

What the standard is

ISO 17100:2015 sets requirements for translation services: translators must meet defined qualification criteria, and every translation must be revised by a second person against the source before delivery. It also covers project records, client agreements and how feedback is handled. Conformity is confirmed by an external certification body that audits the processes, which is what separates certification from a claim.

We have not been audited

So we do not say we are certified, and you will not find a certificate number on our pages. Buying a badge without the audit is a thing some agencies do; it is misleading, and it is not worth the fifteen minutes of extra credibility it buys.

What we do apply

Two of the substantive requirements are part of how we work. Translation for certification is done by translators sworn before a Turkish notary, which is an external qualification test rather than our own opinion of them. And every document that leaves with our certification has been read against the source by a second person, checking figures, dates, names and the completeness of seals and marginal notes — the errors that get a bundle returned are almost always in those, not in the prose. What certification would add is the audit trail, and if we pursue it we will say so on this page with the certificate number. Read how we work and check and our accuracy and acceptance policy.
