Turkish translation in Glasgow
Glasgow’s Turkish-speaking population is small, but the city has long been Scotland’s main destination for people seeking protection, and that produces a particular kind of document work.
A small community and a specific kind of file
Scotland as a whole recorded only a few thousand residents born in Türkiye at its last census, and Glasgow’s Turkish and Kurdish community is correspondingly small. It is not, however, a city with little Turkish document work. Glasgow has for many years been the main place in Scotland where people making protection claims are housed, and the papers that arrive with them — court summonses, prosecution documents, detention and medical records, party or association papers — are the hardest and most sensitive things we translate.
How we handle protection and court documents
Three rules apply to that work and they are not negotiable. The Scottish bodies involved
Consular business goes to Edinburgh, which covers Scotland and Northern Ireland, not to London. Civil and family matters are heard in Glasgow Sheriff Court, marriages are notified to the city registrar under Scottish procedure, and the universities of Glasgow, Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian take transcripts and diplomas in English as uploads. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde records go to Türkiye with patients who continue treatment there, translated into Turkish and, where a Turkish hospital or insurer insists, notarised in Ankara.

Only for as long as we need them, and we delete them on request. Files of this kind are restricted to the translator and the reviser working on them.
Can you certify a translation of a document that is partly illegible?
Yes, and we mark the illegible parts. A translation that silently invents the missing words is worse than useless in a hearing.
Which consulate serves Glasgow?
