Wales in numbers, and one consular caveat
The 2021 Census recorded 2,886 residents of Wales born in Türkiye, most of them in and around Cardiff, Newport and Swansea. Türkiye maintains an honorary consulate in Cardiff, which is not the same thing as a Consulate General: an honorary post has a limited remit, and consular acts such as notarial work and Turkish civil registration are in practice dealt with by the Consulate General in London. Ask the honorary consulate directly what it can do before making plans around it, and read the London consulate page for the acts that must be done there.
Bilingual certificates going to Türkiye
Documents issued in Wales are often produced bilingually in Welsh and English, and this catches people out at the other end. A Turkish notary, nüfus office or court expects the Turkish translation to account for everything printed on the page, not only the English column. We translate the document as a whole and describe the bilingual layout in a translator’s note, so that nothing on the sheet appears to have been skipped. If your certificate is bilingual, say so when you ask for a quote; it changes the character count and therefore the price.
Welsh institutions have their own names
Wales does not have NHS trusts of the English kind: services are delivered by health boards, and records for Cardiff patients come from Cardiff and Vale University Health Board — translated as medical reports and GP letters when a patient continues treatment in Türkiye. Marriage notices go to the register office; Cardiff University, Cardiff Metropolitan and the University of South Wales take transcripts and diplomas in English.
