T.C. kimlik numarası — meaning and English translation
The T.C. kimlik numarası is the eleven-digit personal identification number assigned to every Turkish citizen and printed on identity documents and most records.
Every Turkish citizen is assigned an eleven-digit number at registration, the T.C. kimlik numarası, and it follows them for life. It appears on the identity card, passport, driving licence, civil registry extracts, diplomas, SGK records, tax documents and court papers, and it is the key that e-Devlet uses to retrieve a document. Foreign residents receive a parallel number beginning with 99, the yabancı kimlik numarası.
Our standard rendering is “Turkish Republic identity number (T.C. kimlik no)”. The number itself is copied digit by digit and checked by the reviser against the source, since a single transposed figure would make two documents in the same bundle appear to belong to different people.
