Home Office — explained for Turkish readers
The UK government department responsible for immigration, citizenship, passports, policing and security. Its immigration arm is UKVI.
The Home Office is the UK ministry that covers immigration and nationality, policing, security and, through HM Passport Office, British passports. For a Turkish resident in the UK almost every contact about status runs through it: visa extensions, ILR, naturalisation and the eVisa account.
It corresponds to the Turkish İçişleri Bakanlığı, since the Turkish ministry also oversees the migration authority, the nüfus registers and the police. One difference matters for documents: there is no UK equivalent of the nüfus kayıt örneği showing a whole family on one record. Births and marriages in England and Wales are recorded separately by the General Register Office, so a Turkish family record is often the document the Home Office actually needs from you.
