GDC — explained for Turkish readers
The General Dental Council registers dentists and dental care professionals in the UK. Dentists trained in Türkiye normally register after passing the ORE.
The GDC regulates dentists, dental nurses, hygienists, therapists and technicians throughout the UK. Practising without registration is a criminal offence. A dentist whose degree is from a Turkish university does not hold an automatically recognised qualification, so the usual path is the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE), a two-part exam with limited sittings, followed by an application to the register with proof of identity, qualification, English and good character.
In Türkiye the Türk Diş Hekimleri Birliği enrols dentists and the Sağlık Bakanlığı registers their diplomas; neither runs an entrance examination for Turkish graduates. The GDC also expects a good-standing letter from the Turkish body you were last registered with, which is a document Turkish dentists rarely have to hand and must request before applying.
