Beyanname — meaning and English translation
Beyanname means declaration: in tax contexts it is the tax return filed with the Revenue Administration, and in notarial practice a sworn statement of fact.
The word beyanname covers any formal written declaration, so the rendering depends on who issued it. A gelir vergisi beyannamesi or KDV beyannamesi is a tax return filed with the Gelir İdaresi Başkanlığı, usually online, and the printout carries the taxpayer number, the period and the accrual slip. A beyanname drawn up at a notary or consulate is a personal statement of fact, for instance that the signatory is single, has no other income, or has lost a document, given with the signatory's identity verified.
We translate the tax form as “tax return” and the notarial one as “declaration (beyanname)”, adding the type of tax or subject matter in the heading. Turning every beyanname into “declaration” would leave a caseworker unsure whether they are looking at a filed return or a signed statement.
